Diastolic function from tagged MRI and myocardial fibrosis: the Multi-Ethnic study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background MRI-derived T1 times are associated with diffuse interstitial myocardial fibrosis. LV diastolic dysfunction and fibrosis are important components of cardiac disease, but their relationship has not been firmly established. Early diastolic strain rate (Epeak) has been validated as an indicator of diastolic function by tagged MRI. We derive a novel strain relaxation index (SRI) based on circumferential strain from tagged MRI to indicate early phases of diastolic dysfunction. SRI is defined as the ratio of very early myocardial relaxation time and tissue compliance. We will assess the relationship between diastolic dysfunction assessed by both SRI and Epeak with myocardial fibrosis.

The Influence of Left Ventricular Size and Global Function on Regional Myocardial Contraction and Relaxation in an Adult Population Free of Cardiovascular Disease: A Tagged CMR Study of the MESA Cohort
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between LV structure and function with regional myocardial function in participants of the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis, which is a prospective study including 4 ethnic groups free from clinical cardiovascular disease. Peak systolic strain (Ecc) and regional strain rates (SRS and SRE) were calculated by harmonic phase from tagge...
متن کاملLeft ventricular concentric remodeling is associated with decreased global and regional systolic function: the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis.
BACKGROUND The transition from compensatory concentric remodeling to myocardial failure is not completely understood in humans. To investigate determinants of incipient myocardial dysfunction, we examined the association between concentric remodeling and regional LV function in asymptomatic participants of the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). METHODS AND RESULTS Myocardial tagged...
متن کاملCardiovascular magnetic resonance in an adult human population: serial observations from the multi-ethnic study of atherosclerosis
The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) is the first large-scale multi-ethnic population study in the U.S. to use advanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. MESA participants were free of cardiovascular disease at baseline between 2000 and 2002, and were followed up between 2009 and 2011 with repeated CMR examinations as part of MESA. CMR allows the clinician to visualiz...
متن کاملArterial stiffness is associated with regional ventricular systolic and diastolic dysfunction: the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis.
OBJECTIVE The pathophysiology of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction, particularly in the setting of a preserved ejection fraction (EF), remains unclear. Few studies have investigated the relationship between arterial compliance and LV function in humans, and none used cardiovascular MRI. METHODS AND RESULTS We sought to determine whether arterial compliance is related to regional myocardial fu...
متن کاملInterstitial fibrosis, left ventricular remodeling, and myocardial mechanical behavior in a population-based multiethnic cohort: the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) study.
BACKGROUND Tagged cardiac magnetic resonance provides detailed information on regional myocardial function and mechanical behavior. T1 mapping by cardiac magnetic resonance allows noninvasive quantification of myocardial extracellular expansion (ECE), which has been related to interstitial fibrosis in previous clinical and subclinical studies. We assessed sex-associated differences in the relat...
